Detroit

Today we went back to Detroit...... I am sure it was a conscious decision of Robert's not to take me through the really rough areas and to be honest everything we saw was lovely....we went to Royal Oak which is a suburb of Detroit and it was lovely....like being in a fashionable part of London....loads of cool restaurants, bars and funky shops. Then we drove around some really exclusive residential areas.... boy do you need money!! We drove around quite a bit looking for the Fairlane (I think) mall......it was HUGE ......altro che Bluewater!!! Before coming back to Windsor we stopped off at LaFayette Coney Island to have Coney Dogs which are hotdogs with chilli and onion, chilli fries and a coke.....it was like in a film and it is one of the places that was on Man Vs Food (there was a photo of the guy from the programme too) .......

It was HUGE!It really is a tyre
We took the tunnel to Canada.....but cool hey??

KFC

As promised....here are the photos of KFC ........and a HUGE motorhome I saw as Robert was filling up with petrol! Ps......I need vegetables!!!!!

We had the 18 piece bucket plus fries and....gravy!!!!!!!
And then we had to go for a long walk with the dog to burn up all that fat......

Bocce party.......

Robert and I did the Italians proud!!! (particularly since neither of us had ever played Bocce before!!!) we had a lovely day....it was really hot but there was lenty of cold beer, cold drinks and loads of ice( allthe Canadians thought it was terrible that we don't have ice in a bag " but what do you do when you have a party??? " ........and it was the same with the milk in a bag!! Corey loved his vespa butIdon't think the girls really got the dialect thing!!!

Milk in a bag inside a jug
Todayis a public holiday but a lot of the shops are open....we went to The Beer Store ......heaven for Davide and Pasquale.........(these photos don't really show how big is it....and it only sells beer! ).

And look.....ice in a bag!

We are going up to Chatham where Megan and Corey live......the should be a load of peple at the party so time for me to put on my "I am almost Italian/I can talk to anyone" hat and leave my "I am British/can't talk to anyone" hat at home......watch this space.......and I will try to take photos of their daughters with the Romognola dialect shirts......I wonder if either of them are real cio' kids!!!

Food and Water

Photos but not many words today.......

Corn on the cob....still on the cob - and you find it everywhere.....
I would be as big as a horse if I lived here....donuts, muffins, sweets wherever you look.....
Popcorn heaven

The Baseball GAME!!!!!!

Last night/yesterday afternoon we went to Detroit to see the Tigers play Cleveland (the Tigets beat them easily). There is a 'special' bus (for special people???) that goes directly from Windsor to the stadium and then at the end, it takes you straight back to Windsor.....but of course you have to take your passport - it's only a 20 minute journey but at the border you have to get off, go through customs and then get back on the bus....the Amercian customs guards are not very nice....they ask loads of questions and seem very suspicious etc but the canadian ones are so friendly!!!! The stadium was fantastic....it was so strange being in a stadium in the city centre....it was boiling hot (at least 35') but fortunately our seats were in the shade. There is a sort of party atmosphere in the whole stadium....loads of families, groups of girls, old people....all sorts......and there is some sort of entertainment all the time ( we also had the additional Warren entertainment of course!!!). During the game people would be walking around getting beer, hot dogs, nachos etc (it was like the films) and then at the end of the game there was a mega fireworks display (only on Fridays in the summer) - then no hassle to get out of the stadium and back on the bus! A Friday night in Detroit!

Wherever we go in the world we ALWAYS find a place called Leo's!!

Day 1.......Windsor

We went for a long drive around Windsor this morning......it's like a patchwork city......we started off in John's neighbourhood - really wide roads and lovely houses - then we went to the downtown area.....we even went to the beach......who would have thought???? The things that I noticed most are the fact that all the houses are different - no two houses are the same - and there are so many long low bungalows - and then the roads....all so wide - it's a good job I'm not driving - I wouldn't see any of the red lights. This evening for dinner we have had a Windsor pizza - good but completely different from the pizzas we get and we went to The Beer Store - very Canadian and where they sell huge bags of ice!!! Oh, and we also had the Tim Hortons experience.......look how many types of coffe you can choose from.....when I asked for a small white coffee the poor girl had no idea what I was talking about.....apparently next time I have to ask for a small single cream (??!!)

Just a regular residential road
Now do you see why I would never stop at a red light???
Detroit from the Windsor side
Look carefully Thomas......what can you see??
Krispy kremes are better......
How to make having a coffee complicated!!!!
